Little Bird
Fernando Botero
The Hardy Family Art Collection proudly houses several works from Fernando Botero, who is considered one of the most recognized living artists from Latin America. Botero’s distinctive painting style, characterized by oversized, voluptuous figures and exaggerated still lifes, evolved into monumental bronze sculptures in the 1970s. His iconic and whimsically large Little Bird, one of the top artworks at Nemacolin, can be found outside The Chateau. Explore a bit further, and you will find another Botero sculpture on the patio outside the Grand Ballroom.
Jane Avril
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, a pivotal figure of the Post-Impressionist movement, is renowned for vividly capturing the energy of fin-de-siècle Parisian nightlife. Emblematic of Toulouse-Lautrec’s signature style, this masterwork commissioned of Montmartre performer Jane Avril is marked by radical perspective shifts, flattened forms, and flowing lines, and is executed through a multi-stone lithographic process. In addition to Jane Avril, the Hardy Family Art Collection has five other original Toulouse-Lautrec lithographs, all displayed within The Chateau’s magnificent fine dining restaurant, Lautrec.
